Want plumper, more luscious lips? You could have juicier lips in just 25 minutes with a filler procedure, or permanently more voluptuous lips with our advanced silastic lip implants! Lip augmentation in the Houston, Texas area is a simple way to add volume to the upper and/or lower lips with little downtime.

Lip augmentation creates fuller, plumper lips and reduces fine wrinkles around the mouth. Temporary solutions for lip augmentation are achieved through injectable fillers like collagen, Restylane®, and fat injections, requiring repeat treatments to maintain lip augmentation, as the materials are readily absorbed into the body. For permanent lip enhancement, Dr. Athré is one of the few surgeons who offers the Softsil™ silastic lip implants.

Permanent Lip Implants

Several types of lip implants, such as ePTFE and VeraFil, have been used in the past to permanently augment the lips. These implants are permanent, but tend to lose volume over time, or can look unnatural and hard. Dr. Athré is one of the few surgeons who uses the Softsilsilastic lip implants.

These implants are soft, permanent and very easy to place. Furthermore, they look so natural that they even beat out injectables for how natural they look and feel. The great thing about these implants is that they are permanent (injectable fillers last only about 6 months). For the same time as it takes to do a lip injectable procedure, you can have rejuvenated, soft, natural lips PERMANENTLY. Dr. Athré has even used these implants in his nurses. Ask Jennifer or Lexi what they think about the Softsil implants…they absolutely love them!

These procedures can be done in the clinic under local anesthesia or in the operating room. Surgical lip augmentation takes approximately 20 minutes per lip and patients can return to full physical activity within 1 to 2 days.

Injectable Fillers

Another option for lip augmentation is hyaluronic acid fillers like Restylane and JUVÉDERM®. This option provides natural, soft, and non-detectable results while lasting upwards of 6 months! This is a great option for patients

Anatomy of the Lips

The upper and lower lips are made up of the red portion called the vermillion, and skin. As the vermillion comes to join the skin, it creates a little mound known as the white roll. Beneath the skin, the orbicularis muscle circles the mouth and gives the lip volume.

Aging and the Lips

With age, the muscle around the mouth slowly shrinks and loses volume. This in turn decreases the overall volume of the lips and the amount of vermillion that is visible. The skin around the lips can also shrink, lose collagen, and develop vertical wrinkles.

The skin around the lips can be treated with peels and laser regimens. Both treatments resurface the skin and can smooth wrinkles around the lips.
