As summer draws and everyone is getting ready for their selfie best…lips are one of the most common procedures I get requests for. Lips can be made plumper, more defined, and fuller. The options for lips include fillers and permanent implants. There are advantages and disadvantages to both.
Fillers used in the lips usually are Restylane or Juvederm. Either way, these fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, which is a compound that is naturally found in the body in joint fluid, etc. Fillers usually last about 6 months in the lips because the lips move so much. The good thing about fillers is that they are cheaper and can be done very quickly in the office (normally less than 30 minutes).
Permanent silastic implants are good option for the lips. They are higher in upfront cost, BUT THEY ARE PERMANENT. You will never need to do lip injections again. The implants are normally paid off within 3-4 rounds of lip injections. The procedure to do lip implants is done in the office with local anesthesia and takes about 1 hour.
