Microneedling is a simple procedure that can be done during your lunch hour. First, a local anesthetic cream is spread all over the face. Following this, a specialized instrument is used to make extremely tiny holes in the surface of the skin. The purpose is twofold. First, by making small holes in the skin, the skin is triggered to grow new collagen and refresh. Essentially, you have made a controlled injury in the surface of the skin which causes the skin to regenerate.
The second purpose of making the small holes is that they serve as micro channels, allowing topical medications such as Vitamin C to enter into the deeper layers of the skin to further enhance the regenerative effect. Another “add-on” that can be used besides Vitamin C is PRP or Platelet-Rich Plasma. PRP is the non-cellular component of your blood, and it contains numerous growth factors and proteins that can kick-start the regeneration effect of tired skin. Any area of the body can be microneedled!
