Skin Care for Men

Did you know that men’s skin is oilier, and 25% thicker than women’s skin? This means the potential for more clogged pores and dirtier faces. Men should be taking proper care of their skin by cleansing it every morning and evening (and we’re not talking about using body soap!). Taking care of your skin, whether you’re a male or female, is not just about looking good — it’s about health. Here are some steps if you’re a man looking to get into skin care, but aren’t sure where to start.

Get To Know Your Skin

First you should start getting to know your skin. Many skin care products are specialized for different skin types. Look at shaving creams and face cleansing soaps for example. They usually say: for sensitive skin, dry skin, or oily skin. Determine which type of skin you have, and work from there.

Figure Out Applications

Skin care products exist for a variety of applications and purposes, from anti-aging creams to pore-cleaning products. Find out where you want to focus on and begin forming a skin care routine around your problem areas (or a general skin care routine to simply take care of yourself).

Go Natural

When choosing skin care products, you should go for products with natural ingredients as often as possible, and avoid chemical-based cleansers. Body soaps usually contain detergent ingredients that will irritate your skin and clog your pores, so use natural soaps as well.

Grab a Facial Scrub

For deep cleansing you may opt for a facial scrub or exfoliating cleanser. A scrub will get rid of dead cells on the top layer of your skin and will smooth the surface of your face. Be careful not to use something that is too harsh or contains rough ingredients on your skin to avoid doing damage. Always remember — if something isn’t working for your skin, try another product!

Once your skin is cleansed with natural products and gently exfoliated, remember to moisturize. If you shave, shave first before applying the moisturizer (a lotion made for your face). Don’t forget to apply the cream to your neck as well! If you need intensive moisturizing, look for a cream you can leave on overnight that contains Vitamin E or Aloe Vera oil.

Taking care of your skin is very important, even if you’re a man who doesn’t spend much time in front of the mirror. It’s also very easy! Just add a couple of minutes into your daily morning and evening rituals and you will be astounded at the results. Listen to your body and you can’t go wrong!
