Injectable Fillers in Houston
As time passes, our faces take the brunt of the environment and the sun. If you want a quick, cost-efficient way to rejuvenate your face in less than 5 minutes, you may want to consider injectable fillers. Houston area women and men use these treatments to replace lost volume and minimize the appearance of wrinkles.
What are Injectable Fillers?
Fillers can be injected underneath the skin to “fill” in wrinkles. These fillers can be used to fill in smile lines, plump up lips, and even fill in the troughs under the lower eyelids. Different fillers last for different lengths of time, anywhere from 6 months to over a year depending on the filler used and the location where it is injected.
Why Injectable Fillers?
Injectables are a quick, simple way to enhance your appearance with no downtime. Unlike surgical procedures such as facelift or eyelid surgery near Houston, fillers can rejuvenate your appearance while you are on your lunch hour. There are a variety of different injectables fillers that are used specifically in areas around the face and neck.
What are the different types of Fillers?
Fillers can be classified by their longevity. The categories below are arranged in terms of increasing longevity.
Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring compound in the body. It is the same compound that lubricating joint fluid in your knees and elbows is made of as well as connective tissues. This same compound is synthesized in the lab, purified, and can be injected. Examples of products in this category include Restylane® and JUVÉDERM®.
These filler agents can be injected into the smile lines, lips, troughs under the lower eyelid, cheeks, into the jawline…and just about anywhere you can imagine.
There are two large families of hyaluronic acid fillers, the Restylane® family and the JUVÉDERM® family. At Yuva Med Spa, we prefer the Restylane® family.
Within the Restylane® family some of the fillers are cross-linked making the “thicker”. You can think of this similar to hair gel. You might use thin hair gel for control, but might need super thick hair gel if you want hold. Similarly, cross-linked fillers are thicker, have more “lifting power” and last longer.
Therefore, longevity of a filler is not only based on where it is injected (i.e. tear trough vs. lips) but also on which filler is used. Restylane Defyne® in the cheeks lasts longer than plain Restylane® injected into the cheeks.
Based on all of these variables, Restylane® fillers can last anywhere from 6 – 12 mos depending on where it is injected, what type of Restylane® was used (e.g Restylane Silk vs. Refyne vs Defyne vs Lyft) and how much filler was used.
Examples of products in this category include RADIESSE® and Sculptra®. Some of these injectables can last longer than 2 years.
RADIESSE is a semi-permanent filler composed of microscopic particles of hydroxyapatite crystals, a naturally occurring chemical in the body. This filler can be injected into the smile lines, the creases in front of the jowls, and can sometimes be used to add a little volume to the chin. RADIESSE can also be used on the back surfaces of the hands to add volume and camouflage prominent tendons and veins. RADIESSE can last anywhere from 12-15 months.
Sculptra is an amazing large area filler made of an ingredient similar to absorbable sutures. This chemical (polylactic acid) triggers the growth of new collagen. Therefore, results from Sculptra can take weeks to take effect. Sculptra is very useful in patients that need large amounts of volume in the temple area or in the cheeks. The results from Sculptra can last more than 2 years. Sculptra is used to volumize the entire face, the temples region, and can be used topically with microneedling as well!
