Congratulations! You’ve set up your first dermaplaning appointment. Dermaplaning is one of the most popular skin care services because it’s noninvasive and provides great results.
This exfoliation service uses a blade along the skin to gently remove soft, thin facial hair and dead skin cells—leaving your skin smooth and radiant. Before any skin care service, you should prepare properly, so that you can achieve the best results.
Here’s what to do to prepare for your dermaplaning treatment.
Stop At-Home Exfoliation
If you’re currently using any manual or chemical exfoliation treatments at home, such as retinol, exfoliating serums, facial polishes or scrubs, you should stop using them for about 5 days before the dermaplaning service. Discontinuing at-home treatment will allow for the maximum results when you go in for your spa service.

Reschedule If You Have Any Facial Lesions
During dermaplaning, a sterile blade is used to remove dead skin cells and vellus facial hair, aka “peach fuzz.” If you have any cuts, open wounds, or acne lesions, you should reschedule to avoid further injury or infection.
Avoid Intense Sun Exposure
In the week or two prior to your dermaplaning appointment, avoid direct sun exposure. An aesthetician will not be able to safely perform a dermaplaning procedure on sunburnt or otherwise irritated and sensitive skin.

Go to Your Waxing Appointment Earlier
Dermaplaning can remove unwanted vellus facial hair, but if you also do regular facial waxing to deal with the actual hair of your eyebrows, upper lip, or chin, make sure to schedule your waxing appointment at least a couple of weeks before your dermaplaning appointment to avoid harsh irritation.
