Want plumper, more luscious lips? You could have fuller lips in just 25 minutes with our lip augmentation treatments.

About Lip Augmentation

Lip augmentation creates fuller, plumper lips and reduces fine wrinkles around the mouth. Temporary solutions for lip augmentation are achieved through injectable fillers like collagen, Restylane®, and fat injections.

For permanent lip enhancement, Houston facial plastic surgeon Dr. Raghu Athré is one of the few surgeons near you who offers Softsil™ silastic lip implants.

These implants are soft, permanent, and very easy to place. Furthermore, they look so natural that they even beat out injectables for how natural they look and feel.

The great thing about Softsil™ implants is that they are permanent. Within the same time as it takes to do a lip injectable procedure, you can have rejuvenated, soft, natural lips permanently.

Lip Augmentation Procedure

During lip augmentation procedures, Dr. Athré uses Softsil silastic lip implants, which are natural and permanent, unlike injectable fillers, which typically last only six months.

Silastic lip implants can be done in the clinic under local anesthesia or in the operating room.

There are 2 categories of lip augmentation procedures:

  • Lip augmentation with filler
  • Lip augmentation with Silastic Softsil lip implants

Lip augmentation has become one of the most popular procedures, and one of the most common procedures for lip augmentation is via filler agents. A variety of filler agents can be used, but ionic acid filler agents are used at Athré Facial Plastics.

Common filler agents used in the lips here at Athré Facial Plastics include:

  • Restylane-L
  • Restylane Kysse
  • Juvederm Ultra Plus

Lip Augmentation with Filler

If lip augmentation is performed with filler agents, the procedure is as follows:

First, the lips are numbed with topical numbing cream and/or ice to achieve anesthesia. Once this has been done, the filler agent is carefully injected into the lips to achieve the appropriate contour, fullness, and possibly enhance the vermilion border. The procedure takes about 20 minutes, and patients can immediately see results.

Silastic Sofstil Lip Implants

The final technique for lip augmentation is using permanent, Silastic Softsil lip implants. This procedure is also performed under local anesthesia, is permanent, and takes approximately 35 to 40 minutes for both the top and bottom lip.

The permanent lip augmentation with implants used to be one of the most popular procedures. However, long-term clinical results with migration and movement of the implants has made this procedure less common. Nevertheless, it is still performed and is a safe and efficacious way to increase volume of either the upper or lower lip.

Lip Augmentation Recovery and Results

Lip Augmentation with Filler

The lips tend to swell due to the fact that the lips are a very vascular area. Most patients state that they have swelling for approximately 3 to 4 days following the procedure.

At about day 5, the lips have reached their final volume, and results with filler last about 6 months. Despite the fact that many manufacturers claimed that their filler agents last longer than 6 months, clinical experience has shown that hyaluronic acid fillers in the lips last about 6 months.

The reason for this is that we use our lips all the time whether we are smiling, talking, or making facial expressions. This chronic dynamic motion causes the muscles to break down the filler agent at a faster rate.

Silastic Softsil Lip Implants

After the lip augmentation procedure, patients can usually get back to their day-to-day lives in a couple of days. Softsil silastic lip implants are natural-looking and permanent.

Client Testimonial

“I have been considering on getting lip injections for a few years now but I was always scared to get them because I’ve heard they hurt. I already have semi full lips but I wanted just a little bit more on my top lip. I am glad to say that my experience with Dr. Raghu Athre was amazing!! He explained to me what to expect before he injected me. I have a very very low pain tolerance and he made it very comfortable for me… the best part is he gives you results that looks natural, and that would suit you best. If you are looking for someone who is going to give you 100% of what you are looking for and even leave you looking better than you expected, you must see him!!”
