Male Rhinoplasty:
The Anatomy of the Nose Job’s Popularity with Men

Nose surgery has quite a long-storied history dating back thousands of years to ancient Egypt and India. Of course, rhinoplasty has certainly come a long way since those bygone times.

In the last century, vast improvements have been made to techniques, tools, and training that have given patients and doctors alike the confidence in enhancing the nose, as well as the overall appearance of the face with this procedure.

However, contrary to what many may think nose jobs aren't just something that women opt for—men are also altering their facial features with rhinoplasties.

Rhinoplasty Tops the Charts

Nose surgery is far and away the top surgical procedure undergone by men. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeon's (ASPS) annual statistical report, in 2016 alone more than 55,000 guys went under the knife to repair or augment their noses. That's a quarter of all nose jobs performed that year!

Rhinoplasty is 56 percent more popular than eyelid surgery, which is the next most sought-after enhancement procedure among males. While we're still awaiting the ASPS' statistics for 2017, we can only assume that this number has increased even greater.

What's Motivating Men?

Let's not kid ourselves: guys care just as much about their appearance as women do. Sure, they may not spend nearly the same amount of money on beauty and care products as their feminine counterparts, but that doesn't mean that their looks aren't important to them.

A lot of men devote just as much time in front of the mirror every morning, perusing every pore and handling every hair so they look their absolute best. These days they are even taking it a step further with facial plastic surgery. Fortunately, there aren't the same stigmas surrounding cosmetic enhancement for men like there once were.

There are many other reasons guys are more apt to revise their noses, including a sports-related injury, an altercation from younger days, or to relieve the effects of some breathing issues caused by a deviated septum.

Finding the Right Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon

A rhinoplasty is not a one-and-done procedure that works for everyone. For example, a man's nose calls for a much different approach than that of a woman. There are many distinct traits of the masculine facial structures to take into account and that's why it's extremely important to find a board certified facial plastic surgeon who understands that the male profile is unique.

As Houston's top facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Athré understands these crucial differences in characteristics and how to maintain the male gender's respective attributes.
