The fat used for the fat transfer is extracted from parts of your body like the abdomen or thighs and then injected into another area that requires plumping. Since the fat is your own, a significant portion of the fat becomes permanent, thereby eliminating the need for constant re-injections, as with other materials.
Fat grafting by itself is not a new procedure. However, the technique that Dr. Athré uses is. Traditional fat grafting had the advantages of a possible permanent rejuvenation solution, but had several disadvantages, among which were granuloma formation, lumpiness, a necessity for overcorrection, and a need for the use of large injection cannulas.
Dr. Athré now uses the ALMI technique and is one of the few surgeons in Houston and in Texas to do so. This technique uses the same fat harvesting technique. However, the fat is then micronized and reconstituted with PRP (platelet rich plasma). The combo material can be injected in much the same way as Restylane® or Juvederm® through tiny needles. This technique reduces many of the complications seen in older techniques, such as irregular contours and lumpiness. Finally, the initial results of this technique show that the additional volume can last for longer than five years!
The combo material can also be used for hair regrowth and many other uses because of the stem cells in the combo material and the regenerative power of this combo material.
